THE WOMEN IN MY LIFE ARE HOUSES

WOMANHOOD GROUP EXHIBITION

THE WOMEN IN MY LIFE ARE HOUSES

the artwork 'the women in my life are houses' is part of the group exhibition 'womanhood'.

the text written on the objects is an ode to the complexity of a woman’s life. it is taking into account features that are the origin of existing stereotypes, but celebrating them as only the springboard, not the terminal stage of their beings as free and fearless entities.

the women in my life are houses. beneath their beams I am safe. by their fires I am warm. storms may open closed windows and rainfall may flood the floors. but this is the small stuff.

__

in the big picture, this is where I go when the sky collapses. beneath their beams, next to their fires, drawing lines, building blocks. so I can become one of them.

__

breathing into the night, calling things into being. not scared of asking neighbours for salt, flour, shade and protection. sometimes tired, but always waking up to new tasks and old freedoms. yes, old freedoms.

__
